Final Weight Summary

After tracking my weight for over 8 years, fairly consistently, I am done.
As with training\working out, I am done keeping track of shit.

As I have mentioned in the past, every time I weigh myself, it is in the nude, in the morning, after going to the bathroom.  Trying to stay consistent. Again, I think I have done a pretty good job :)

In November of 2007, my high was about 207.  Since then I have been up and down, with a low around 176, which I was near the end of this year, oddly enough.  I think before I started weighing myself in 2007, I was probably at 220, or higher. I may have mentioned this before, but I think my low, since Charlie has been born, has been due to eating less, and going from a few beers a week, to a few beers every 2-3 weeks.

What is my secret to staying so lean and trim (Ha Ha). Trying, again trying, to not over eat, especially things that are not good for me in large quantities, and switching to some veggie only meals 2-3 times a week.  I think that is large drop in weight in 2013-2014.  Jackie started veggie meals  about 2 years ago and it has helped keep my weight down.  I love red meat, but I eat much less than I used to.  Now more pork and chicken.

Below are the charts, and a table.  Charts are for my measured weight, average weight by year, minimum and maximum weight by year, standard deviation of weight by year, and range of weight by year.  It is all there and all done.

Enjoy! Have a Happy New Year!

December 2014 Training Summary and Weight Summary

December was all training work.  Nothing exciting.  This was the most total training time I have put in, in a December since December of 2010.  It was not intentional, just happened to work out that way.  Most of my time increase came from putting in some more time in the pool than the previous years.  January will be interesting, since I am going to spend the last two weeks in France for work, and then a week in Italy for vacation.  Like last January, I wanted to ramp up my bike time and intensity, that will be difficult to do.  I think I will have to save that bike ramp up for mid-February.  I can try to run more in January, that will probably be the easiest thing to do while I am in Europe.  Mostly I am going to have to do what I can while I am there.  My time will be consumed by work, unfortunately.

I am going to do year-to-year comparison of my training totals in a different post.  I did get over 100 hours on the bike, over 104 hours, that means that I have averaged over 2 hours a week on the bike.  I have not put in over 100 bike hour since 2011.

I have only registered for two races at this point.  St. Anthony's, as always, last weekend in April, and Gear West Duathlon, as always, near the end of May.  Still thinking about other races.

YTD 2014 and Totals Since 2007

Since I don't have much to say in terms of training, I thought I would put in my final weight tracking results for the year.  On 12/31/13 I weighed in at 193, on 12/31/14 I weighed in at 183.  My weight, as expected, when up and down throughout the year.  Below are a number of charts.  One chart is each time I weighed myself, since 2007, one chart is my average for the year, standard deviation for the year, range for the year, and minimum and maximum for the year.

I have mentioned previously what I attribute my weight loss to this year, over previous years.  I will mention it again.  My wife made a deliberate effort for us to eat more veggies and chicken, less red meat.  We do a lot of cooking from the Weight Watchers and Skinny Taste cookbook.  Also, a little more portion control.  I am hungry all the time, portion control is difficult.  I have try to do a better job about eating snacks in between meals.  Trying to eat better "fillers" between meals.  Besides eating better, and differently, I think the increase in bike time and intensity, and run intensity, helped with my weight loss.  Of course, a loss of about 10 pounds, on average, helped my speed this year.  It probably helped my endurance, being that I did not have to tote that extra 10 lbs around.  I would like to get under 180, but I think that will take some extra effort I am not ready to commit to.

My Weight Update

Every year I post my weight update, sometimes twice a year.
I do watch what my weight is doing, to see if it is trending in any particular way.
Generally, I watch what I eat.  I try not to eat a lot of crap, which I think I am pretty good at.
I do like craft beer, good beer, and I am not going to cut that out.  I try to watch how much of it I drink.  I do like to eat, I try to no overeat, but sometimes I do.  With the amount I workout, especially certain days, I get really hungry and it is hard not to eat a lot, and eat whatever I can get my hands on, so I try to have stuff around that is not too bad.
My weakness is certain breakfast pastries (apple fritters, coffee cake, some doughnuts), but only with coffee in the morning.  I do like meats and pizza.  I will overeat pizza, it is a terrible habit, but I LOVE pizza.  Sometimes when I have a great hamburger or steak, I might overeat also.  I think I am getting better at not overeating.
Over the last two years, my weight has been pretty flat on average.  Over the last two years, it has been up a little over the years prior.
So far in 2014, my weight has started out a couple pounds lower.  This is probably a combination of my wife starting a new diet, and, of course, me following suite, and working out more intense, and more than last year at this time, and in December.  Just eating less meat, smaller portions, more vegetables is probably helping too.
I have mentioned this before, I will mention it again, I weigh myself in the morning, usually every two weeks, and twice that week, typically.  I weigh myself in the morning, in the nude, after emptying my bladder and/or bowels.  I try to be consistent so that I am not weighing at different times of day under different conditions.
Below are charts showing my trends.  Click on charts to make larger.

Weight

I try not to get to hung up on my weight.  I do weigh myself a few times a month, just to get an idea of were I am at.  It is another easy piece of information to keep about myself.
I do like to keep my weight around 190lbs, I would like it to be about 180, but I am not going to change my diet dramatically to get there.  I like to eat good food, and drink good beer, and I don't really want to give those things up.  I know that some times I need to do a better job of moderation.  That is probably my biggest issue.  That is the issue with most people.  Eating too much, eating crap, and/or eating too much crap.  I do not eat a lot, or much, crap, but I do tend to eat too much at times.
I base my weight more on look and feel.  I can gain muscle, lose fast, and gain some weight. I could also lose muscle, gain fat, and lose weight.  I kind of know how I should look and be comfortable.
I am not going to preach about diet.  What to eat, what not to eat.  There are enough people out there doing that.  I think that most people know that the best thing to do is eat healthy, watch portions, and exercise.  The problem most people have is doing what they know they should do.
I know my weight fluctuates with the season, more in the winter, less in the summer.  It is part of life, especially if you are an athletes who race in summer\spring and takes an "off-season".
Below is the chart that tracks my weight since I started in 2007.   Below that is the chart with my average weight for each year, and below that is the table that shows average weight for the year and standard deviation.  Eventhough, I was a little heavier this year than the past years, I was more consistent this year than last year.
I weigh myself the same way each time, in the morning, after urinating, in the nude.
For reference in 2005, before I started racing, I was probably 220+, and in 2006 I was probably 210+.  In high school, 20 years ago, I was about 175.

Watch Weight

Below is a chart tracking my weight from late Nov 2007 until Feb 2011.  I started out at 205-210, now I am about 185-188.  At my heaviest, in 2004 and 2005, I was about 230ish.   I stopped drinking regular soda and went to diet and that lost weight almost immediately.  I also started duathlons in 2006 and that resulted in some major weight loss.
I cannot get below about 186.  I have been trying to get under 180, but I have not been able too.  Probably because I like beer, burgers, and pizza.
Over the last couple of years I have tried to weigh myself every two weeks, two days during that week.  I go to the bathroom and then weigh myself nude on the scale, before getting in the shower.  Hopefully, this adds some consistency.
